The men's golf team traveled to Florida to compete against Ohio Northern in a three-day competition for its' annual spring break trip. The men’s team ended the competition with eight wins and three losses in singles and pairs.
The team is currently scheduled to compete in the OAC Spring Championships in Sunbury, Ohio and the NCAA Match Play in Greensboro, North Carolina on April 27-29. The team has won 19 of the last 26 conference titles. The Cards currently hold six of eight consecutive records and are looking to repeat their success at the national level this season.
As the spring season picks up, the team’s sights are set on winning another OAC Championship title, which would earn them an automatic bid to play at the NCAA Division III Nationals.
Sam Marty, returning sophomore, expressed enthusiasm for the team’s upcoming matches, but also a strong desire to share the team’s success with the rest of the Otterbein community.
“We simply don’t have a place to practice on campus," said Marty. "We’re not seen around like, for instance, the football or soccer teams who are always playing or practicing right on campus, but we have to go off campus to the golf course. Its hard to show off our team when where we spend the most of our time as a team isn’t on campus.”
Marty further emphasized the strength of the golf program and cited the national championship as the team’s primary motivation for the remainder of the spring season.
The team’s schedule will continue with their next match against Mount St. Joseph on March 24- 25 at Yankee Trace in Centerville, Ohio.
