At approximately 7:39 a.m. Otterbein Police Sergeant Robert Reffitt sent a mass email to students containing a crime alert.
According to the alert on behalf of Larry Banaszak, chief of Otterbein Police, a sexual assault was reported at around 4:15 a.m. in the “immediate campus area.”
Reffitt said the reported incident happened at an off-campus house, so the Westerville Division of Police is currently handling the investigation.
No weapon has been reported and the suspect, according to the alert, is an African-American male.
No other information has been disclosed at this time.
The alert specifies that anyone with information concerning this crime should immediately notify the Westerville Police Department at (614) 882-7444 or contact the Otterbein University Police Department at (614) 823-1222.
Sexual assaults are mandatory to report in a “timely notice” due to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Police and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998.
