Get ready for free stuff because the First Friday Festival has arrived.
The First Friday Festival begins today from 3-6 p.m. in front of the Campus Center.
“First Friday Festival is a great opportunity for students, especially freshmen, to get to know the local businesses and student organizations. If anyone is interested in joining an organization, or want to know what kind of businesses are near campus, this is the perfect opportunity,” Campus Programming Board President & senior organizational communication major, Emily Edwards said.
Edwards said that they are expecting over 90 businesses and organizations this year whereas last year’s festival hit the maximum capacity of booths. By limiting the amount of tables, CPB, which hosts FFF, has been able to provide some live entertainment.
“We have hired a caricature artist and henna (artist). We felt that these hired artists would add more of a fun atmosphere to the event,” Edwards said.
While the majority of the same businesses and organizations will be at FFF again, some new tables include: Ember Church, Blue Turtle Teas and Spices and the Otterbein Debate Team.
Senior journalism and media communications major Sydney Salerno said that FFF is something she looks forward to every year. In fact, she was wearing a t-shirt from FFF during her sophomore year.
“It’s the whole reason I’m staying (on campus) (today). I don’t have class on Mondays or Fridays but I have a lot of friends in the different campus organizations that I want to see and support at FFF so I stuck around for the night instead of going home,” Salerno said.
Salerno said that she is most looking forward to the Jimmy John’s and WOBN booths.
Salerno’s fellow sophomore journalism and media communications major Grace Lenehan is a big fan of FFF.
“I went last year and it’s a great event for everyone, especially for freshmen. There’s tons of free stuff which is great. I will be attending this year because I will actually be (working) at the WOBN booth.”
Lenehan said that she is not quite sure which booths she will go to but she will definitely be making a stop at the Otterbein Christian Fellowship booth as well as CPB.
Due to the imposing tropical rains from Hurricane Isaac possibly moving in as early as tomorrow, Edwards said they do have a plan for FFF in case of inclement weather. She said that although they cannot control the weather, they plan to move as many tables as they can indoors.
