BLOG: Otterbein360 staff discusses awful neighbors

Whether it is a roommate or the suite next door, bad neighbors are inevitable in college. These encounters can drive you crazy, keep you up at night, or teach you to be a more patient person. A few members of the Otterbein360 staff shared their experiences dealing with terrible neighbors.

“The suite above me has one resident who regularly causes a ruckus at 1:00AM pretty much every night. This has been going on all semester. At first I thought they were just playing loud music or jumping around. I later found out they were in fact having sexual intercourse which explains why someone’s bed was slamming so hard into the wall above me that my blinds were shaking.”

-Gena DiMattio, editor-in-chief

“My roommate and I happen to live directly next to who I’m convinced are the worst neighbors possible. Every college dude is loud, but I mean, these guys are exceptionally loud. Their favorite phrase scream is “F*ck you, pussy,” and their favorite activities include sitting in their room blaring awful rap music and screaming over top of it to communicate with one another. Pong is another favorite of theirs, especially when it includes throwing the ball against our wall. These activities often start in the afternoon and can carry on anywhere between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m., and not just on weekends.”

-Emmy Wells, A&E editor

Even commuters cannot entirely avoid dealing with bad neighbors.

“This one time my neighbors called the fire department because they thought they smelled gas. The fire department sent out trucks and firefighters, as normal. It turns out it was just a skunk.”

-Anna Schiffbauer, news editor
