Otterbein University has resources on campus and there are resources available off campus but close by.
On-Campus resources
Students can go to the Health Center, located just east of the Campus Center, with questions or when they are sick to be treated for any illnesses. The Health Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday with walk-ins. Lee Ann Bowers is a registered nurse and certified nurse practitioner at the health center.
The Health Center has contraceptives for those who are sexually active. “We offer the pill, condoms and the NuvaRing. On average only about 7 percent of girls address the need for the pill or NuvaRing,” Bowers said.
The Health Center offers gynecological exams for women in need of them, but Bowers said there isn’t generally high demand.
The Women’s Gender Resource Center, located at 25 West Home Street, is open for all students to come in from 4 p.m. to midnight.
Mitchell Gaver works in the WGRC, and he said, “The center offers information about gender and sexuality. Those who work in this center are trained to learn about resources on and around campus for those who have been abused. We help schedule meetings for groups next door in the Women’s Gender Meeting lounge who need to talk,” Gaver said.
Off-Campus resources
There are various resources off campus but nearby that can provide service to students. At Planned Parenthood, birth control pills, condoms, testing for sexually transmitted infections, the morning-after pill and other general health services are available.
Sarah Natoce, a graduating senior psychology major and president of Otterbein's Voices of Planned Parenthood said, “There are multiple services offered. Some are free, but they do take insurance, and it varies with each individual and what coverage they have.”
Both CVS Pharmacy at 145 S. State St. and Uptown Pharmacy at 23 N. State St. carry condoms, pregnancy tests and the morning-after pill.
