The Otterbein University volleyball team held onto a close match against Denison University
Thursday night, winning win 3 sets to 1.
With the win, Otterbein improves to 6-7 on the season, while Denison drops to 5-6.
Both teams exchanged leads to begin the first set. Otterbein was up, 8-7, before Denison took six of
the next seven points to take a 13-9 lead.
Otterbein then went on a run of their own, scoring 11 of the next 14 points, making it 20-16 late in
the set.
Denison wouldn’t go down easy though, staying one point within reach of Otterbein before the
Cardinals closed out the first set, 25-23.
During the second set, Denison went ahead 13-12. However, the lady Cards of Otterbein went on a
13-2 run, winning the second set, 25-15.
The Cardinals jumped ahead early in the third set, leading Denison with a score of 10-5. Denison
gradually climbed themselves back into the match though, going on sporadic three-point streaks until
the set was tied at 24.
Both teams traded well-fought points, but tied at 27, Denison scored two quick points to take the set,
29-27.
The fourth set ended in similar fashion to the previous. This time though, the Cardinals came out
on top. With Denison leading, 28-27, and one point away from sending the match to a fifth set,
Otterbein scored three unanswered to take the set and the match.
Otterbein freshman Megan Volosin led the Cardinals with 15 kills and five aces. Senior Kim Barker
also had a successful night as well, tallying 13 kills, two aces and three blocks.
The Cardinals are back in action this Saturday when they compete in a tri-match with Hiram College
and Kenyon College at Kenyon. Their first match begins at 3 p.m.
