The Otterbein University women’s soccer team kept up their hot run, winning at home Wednesday night against the Hiram College Terriers, 2-0.
The Cardinals improve to 4-2-3 on the season, while the Terriers fall to 5-5-1.
Otterbein wasted no time getting on to the board as senior midfielder Lindy Stemen sent a shot to the back of the net from 35 yards with just under four minutes into the game, giving Otterbein the early 1-0 lead.
“I was trying to cross it to (junior forward) Megan McCabe,” Stemen said about her shot. “I was trying to curve it to Megan but instead it went straight, it dipped and it went in.”
The two teams would battle it out for the remainder of the first-half with Otterbein taking the lead heading into the half.
The Cardinals scored again in the second half, this time off of the foot of sophomore forward Alvi Shivley, assisted by McCabe. Shivley's goal put Otterbein up 2-0.
Otterbein would go on to hold that lead and take the victory.
The Cardinals outshot Hiram 11-6 with six of Otterbein's shots on the goal compared to the Terriers’ two.
According to Stemen, it has been teamwork that has led to Otterbein’s success, not only during this game, but also throughout the season.
“We’re in a really good place as a team,” she said. “We’re all getting along. We’re asserting ourselves at the same time, not just individually.”
The Cardinals’ next game is Saturday against Heidelberg University at Memorial Stadium. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
