Clinton promotes free public tuition plan at OSU rally; talks debate

Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton promoted a “joint” plan with former Democratic Presidential Candidate Bernie Sanders to give free tuition to anyone from a family making under $125,000 at a rally at Ohio State Monday night.

Clinton reiterated the plan from her campaign's website to reduce college debt. She also discussed the second presidential debate and criticized her opponent, Republican nominee Donald Trump.

“[Sanders and I] both remember when college was affordable,” Clinton said. “It isn’t for a lot of people now, and a lot of states have disinvested in their great public colleges and universities. So here is our proposal: We want anyone from a family that makes less than $125,000 a year to go to Ohio State tuition free.”

Clinton also discussed a plan to refinance student debt, which would be paid back at the percentage of income made.

Otterbein president Kathy Krendl said at a Town Hall meeting on Feb. 24 that a change to tuition-free public colleges would be detrimental to Otterbein’s financial future. The statement was made during the primary season when Sanders was proposing free tuition at public colleges.

Clinton discussed various issues including trade deals, the choice of a supreme court nominee and equal pay for women. She criticized Trump's comment during the debate that a tape released over the weekend described "locker room talk."

According to FiveThirtyEight, Clinton’s polling numbers overtook Trump’s on Oct. 4. It has been speculated that Clinton was diverting resources away from Ohio before this date.

The voter registration deadline for residents of Ohio is Tuesday Oct. 11.
