The Otterbein University Senate will meet in Riley Auditorium at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1 to discuss a seven-week course proposal and prospective commencement speakers.
The course bill being proposed creates a formal calendar for half-semester long courses. Due to expected growth in these courses due to the transition to a 3-credit hour course model, the planning committee is proposing to create a formal structure with defined registration and start and end dates. This proposal could affect the scheduling of courses for current freshmen and sophomores, as well as incoming students due to the uncertainty of class availability during specific semesters.
While Otterbein does not mandate that honorary degrees be given at every graduation ceremony, President Kathy Krendl is proposing for this year’s commencement speakers to be given honorary degrees for their work in their respective fields.
David Bloom, one of the proposed speakers, is the president and CEO of OhioHealth, a healthcare system based in Columbus. Jane Grote Abell, the second proposed speaker, is a founding family member of Donatos Pizza. She is currently chairwoman of the board.
