Students concerned about switch to 3-credit model and the search for a new Otterbein president

Otterbein Student Government holds its first student-run town hall

The Otterbein University Student Government held its first student-led town hall on October 12 at the Chapel. The event was a question-and-answer format where students asked the leaders questions about topics such as the 3-credit hour model, parking, the presidential search and the possibility of a new campus center.

Students learned that tuition has risen 2 percent but will stay the same cost next year and that room and board expenses will rise by 4 percent.

The switch from a 4-credit class model to a 3-credit model in the fall of 2018 was discussed in length. The 3-credit model will allow students to take more classes in a semester if they have a double major or a minor.

Despite the change, Otterbein has promised that students will still graduate on time unless they change their major drastically. The number of credits required to graduate in the new model will change from 126 to 120 credits.

The search for a new university president was also a topic of discussion. Jeremy Paul, student government president, is on the presidential search committee and ensured that he will take students' comments into consideration.

If students have any questions, comments or concerns they can email the Otterbein University Student Goverment at studentgovernment@otterbein.onmicrosoft.com.
