Daughters of officer Joering awarded full scholarships to Otterbein

Otterbein awards full scholarships to Officer Eric Joering’s four daughters after his death in recent police shooting.

Otterbein President Kathy Krendl read a letter to the Westerville City Council last Tuesday announcing that all four of Officer Eric Joering’s daughters will be eligible for a full scholarship to Otterbein. The scholarship will cover four years of full time study for each of the daughters.

Officers Eric Joering and Anthony Morelli, two Westerville police officers, lost their life after a recent police shooting. Joering was 39 when he was shot in an apartment complex near State Street earlier this month. Joering had been in service for 16 years and his partner, Anthony Morelli, had been serving for 26 years.

In an email Krendl sent to TandC Media, Krendl said “Tuition support for the Joering children was a spontaneous and unanimous decision identified by Otterbein’s senior leadership. Our entire Westerville community is rallying to extend love and kindness in the midst of this tragedy. Ensuring access to an education is the most meaningful gift Otterbein can provide.”
