How to vote in your first election

What to expect when you walk into the polls

Voting can seem like a monumental task when you've never done it. Lucky for you, we've got a rundown of what you can expect at the polls.

When you arrive at your polling location, you will likely have to wait in line, so you may want to arrive early.

Once you speak with one of the volunteers, they'll ask to see your ID, give you a card, and direct you to your voting machine. You'll insert your card into the machine and follow the directions on the screen.

Your choices will be recorded on the machine itself, in a hard drive, and on the paper shown on the left side of the machine.

You'll be asked to verify your choices multiple times before you submit them. After that, you're free to leave.
