Editor's Blog: Recap of stories and what to expect next semester

In preparation for winter break, we've broken down everything that happened on Otterbein's campus this past semester

Over the course of the semester, T&C Media has been covering various events on campus, including those surrounding faculty and staff, student life, university governance, theater performances, sports games and more.

Over 70 stories were completed this semester by our team of reporters.

Among the changes on campus that were covered this semester was the tuition increase and the creation of the Opportunity Scholarship, which will cover all tuition expenses for students of low socioeconomic status. These were covered by reporter and Copyeditor Aselya Sposato.

The campus center renovation was also covered by reporters this year. There were many changes that happened with the plan, including an increase in renovation costs and an update on where students will eat during the process. Reporters covered these changes along with a compiled list of frequently asked questions

Reporter Megan Miller covered how Ohio's opioid crisis is affecting college campuses by  informing the community about how Otterbein police officers carry Naloxone, which is a medicine used to prevent overdoses.

WOBN alumni Karen Kasler and Matt Cole sat with us during Homecoming week to talk about their experiences at Otterbein, while also giving advice to future students.

The cross country teams took home a dual OAC title, the men’s soccer team made it to the OAC quarterfinal before losing to Ohio Northern, and the women’s soccer and volleyball teams had a continuous winning streak. Game highlights were posted by Video Editor Diana Asta on football, volleyball and women’s soccer.

We took a closer look at the Otterbein Theatre Department’s fall performances of the musical Big Fish, Macbeth, and the Our Body Our Rules: Otterbein Drag Show 2018.

Otterbein’s newest building, the Point, got a lot of attention when the university sought to get licenses permitting the sale of alcohol at the building. The Point also partnered with JPMorgan Chase. This new partnership will allow students to work with experts at three new on-site innovation spaces and will create a scholarship.

Stay tuned for more stories next semester with future updates on the campus center renovation, theater performances and spring sports coverage.

T&C Media wishes everyone a happy holiday and a great winter break.
