Otterbein women’s basketball adds a win after a heartbreaking loss in a week of tough conference play.
The Cardinals lost a close one to the Ohio Northern Polar Bears on Wednesday night. Otterbein came out firing, quickly taking a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Polar Bears would go on a 19-4 run before the half was over. Otterbein sophomore, Jenna Hoschouer, would sink a half-court shot to close out the half.
The Cardinals entered the fourth quarter tied 39-39, but would come up short due to tough defense causing two contested three point shots to miss off the mark ending the game 50-51.
On Saturday, in a game honoring former coach and current Senior Associate Athletic Director Connie Richardson, Otterbein ousted Heidelberg 77-74. Senior forward, Abbie Sholz, dropped 20 points for the night, leading the Cardinals in scoring.
Otterbein led the Student Princes by seven points to start the fourth quarter and had the lead up to 13 at one point. Heidelberg quickly fought back and brought it within two points, but Hoschouer would make three of four free throws to seal the game.
Sholz and junior guard Angelia Jackson led the team in scoring this week with Sholz combining for a total of 28 points. Jackson went four for 11 from three and combined for a total of 19 points.
Otterbein is now 10-7 on the season and an equal 5-5 in conference. Conference play will continue on Wednesday as the Cardinals take on Marietta in Marietta and will face Capital on Saturday in Bexley. Game time starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday and 5 p.m. Saturday.
