The Otterbein Cardinal baseball team looks to continue their success on the diamond following another championship season.
The past few seasons of success were led by a group of recent graduates who had great careers at Otterbein. Ben Beachy, Tim Snyder, Johnny Putnam, and Connor Brett each received All-OAC honorable mention in 2019.
Two returning players also received spots on the All-OAC team. Junior first baseman, Luke Barber, was selected as second team All-OAC after dominating at the plate. Barber hit an impressive .320 batting average, bringing in 35 RBI’s and 9 home runs.
Senior right-handed pitcher, Collin Hoffmann, was selected as first team All-OAC, posting a 6-1 record with a 2.49 ERA. Hoffmann tossed 51 strikeouts while only allowing 7 walks last season.
Hoffmann was also selected by D3baseball.com and American Baseball Coaches Association All-Mideast Region teams this past summer. He collected a second team spot on both rosters respectively.
George Powell is coming into his 21st season as head coach of the Otterbein baseball program. Powell has been one of the most successful coaches in the Ohio Athletic Conference, becoming just the sixth manager in league history to reach 500 career wins in the spring of 2019. He has won four OAC titles in the past four years, raising his career total to nine.
Last year the Cardinals were 10-8 in the conference with a 26-18-1 record overall.
