The Otterbein women’s basketball team fought back in the second half to secure a victory over the hosting Muskingum Muskies.
Otterbein started out strong, scoring rapidly and jumping out to a quick lead in the first quarter. The Cardinals would struggle in the second half, going from shooting 50% in the first quarter to just 26% in the second and being outscored 19-14, enough for Muskingum to head into the locker room with a two point lead.
Otterbein rebounded in the second half and never looked back, leading the Muskies in second half scoring 41-29, ending the game with a 74-64 victory.
Otterbein outworked the Muskies by outscoring them in “hustle points”, putting up 34 points in the paint, 14 points off turnovers and 17 fast break points. Muskingum only managed 24 points in the paint, six points on turnovers and only seven fast break points.
Sophomore guard Jenna Hoschouer continued to lead the Cardinals, scoring 19 points and grabbing 7 rebounds while junior guard Abby Zerkle contributed 15 points for the Cardinal victory.
The regular season will come to a close this week against John Carroll and Baldwin Wallace before heading to the OAC tournament.
The Cardinals play John Carroll at 7 p.m. Wednesday and Baldwin Wallace at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Rike center.
