Otterbein Men's Basketball wins 17th game, secures best season since 2004

The Cardinals have had their best season since 2004

This season, the Otterbein University men’s basketball team has had their best season since the 2003-04 campaign.

The Otterbein Cardinals are having a strong finish to the season with a 17-6 record.

A pair of brothers who have always wanted to work together, have found that opportunity here at Otterbein. Andy and Matt Winters have moved this program to a new direction.

Andy Winters is the Cardinals' head coach, and previously coached at rival school Capital University. Winters has been the head coach at Otterbein for three years now and thinks that Otterbein is a special place.

His brother, Matt Winters, is the Cardinals' assistant coach, and previously was an assistant coach for the Ohio Northern University basketball team. Matt has also been coaching the Otterbein basketball team for three years.

“The freshman and sophomore class have had a big impact on the team with players as in Cam Evans. The players have more leadership roles this year and hold more accountability amongst themselves,” said Matt Winters.

Evans, a sophomore from Chillicothe, Ohio is the Cardinals' second-leading scorer with 13 points per game.

Reid Black is a key player to this Cardinals' team, a senior from Wadsworth, Ohio has three varsity letters so far and was ranked fifth in the Ohio Athletic Conference for rebounds per game last season.

“I see the future of Otterbein Basketball in a great place. Coach Winters continues to recruit hard working and skilled players. Under the leadership of our coaches and upperclassmen, the program is headed in the right direction,” said Black.

Otterbein basketball has one game left of their regular season, a home game against the University of Mount Union.
