Promise House offers students chance to donate swipes

The SWIPES Program helps students redistribute meal swipes to those who need them

The Promise House SWIPES Program has started collecting meal swipe donations. Students can donate up to 10 swipes this semester.

Anybody with meal swipes in their account is allowed to donate swipes. This program helps redistribute swipes at the end of the semester when students realize that they have more or less swipes than they need.

“I found out about the SWIPES Program last semester. I rarely use swipes, so I think the option to donate your swipes is a great thing for those who have used all their swipes, or for people who don’t have swipes at all,” said Gabrielle Webb.

The meal swipe voucher issued at the Promise House can be redeemed for meals at The Nest. Students must sign up to be a member of the Promise House to receive a voucher by filling out a brief form. Each student can receive up to two vouchers per semester.

“We normally have a good turnout on donations," said Sydney Quynn, the Promise House main supervisor. "Last semester 610 meal swipes were donated. The SWIPES Program started in 2015 with the Promise House opening, and the program has taken different forms over the years."

If students have extra swipes and would like to donate them, they can stop at the cashier station at the Cardinal's Nest and make a donation.
