The Otterbein women's soccer team has a winning record of 11-3-2 and is not yet done with their season.
So far in the conference they are 7-1 and stand 2nd in the OAC, with their only conference loss being John Carroll University. In the OAC 2023 preseason poll, they were ranked 3rd, but have been proving themselves to the top so far in the season.
The team has been improving a lot since their past season. Payton Kaufman, a senior captain defender said, “after reflecting on last season, we made it a priority to focus on being dangerous in the attacking third of the field this year.”
Kaufman also made comments on how they have improved this year. She said, “We’ve had a few last-minute game-winners which reflects our grit and resilience up until the final whistle.”
Their whole defensive line-up is full of seniors, which leads them to have a huge role on the team because of their commitment. The women’s head coach, Brandon Koons who has been coaching for 25 seasons, stated that this year they also have a good range of forwards that play a huge role in each game in different ways.
Koons had some words to say on the importance of the next coming games. He said, “the biggest game will be on Wednesday, then after that, the biggest game will be on Saturday. From here on out every game will be the biggest game.”
The team recently had their senior night on October 21st and took a 4-0 win against Baldwin Wallace. Along with a win of 3-1 against Marietta this past Wednesday. They are hoping to win their last game on October 28th against Mount Union to be able to get in the top rankings in the OAC. They then conclude with the OAC tournament starting on October 31st, hoping to win to get a chance at the NCAA tournament.
