After a tough 2023 season, the Otterbein men’s lacrosse team looks to move higher in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) along with 15 new additions to the roster and 24 veterans.
Colin Hartnett is going into his 15th season as the head coach of the program. Harnett has led the team to two OAC tournament titles in 2014 and 2015. This season he is joined with five other assistant coaches.
After finishing fifth out of ten teams in the OAC, they move towards the top this coming season. The captains for the year 2024 are senior attacker, Aidan Moore and junior midfielder Nathan Lewis.
Many key players graduated last year but they are expecting some of the younger players to step up into new positions.
They are working a lot to change this 2024 season at all ends of the field. Ethan Foster, a sophomore goalie said for this year, “I expect the offense to work better as a unit, and same goes for our defense.”
Theron Cable is also a sophomore who is a defender on the team. He thinks there will be some changes to the upcoming season.
“We lost a lot of valuable players last year, so we are hoping for new guys to step into big roles,” says Cable. Cable is looking forward to “seeing how the new group will merge together.”
The main goal for this season is to have a 45–55 percent win average, as they finished last season with a win average of 35 percent. Cable and Foster have stated that this season's toughest game will be against their rival, Capital University, which will be played at home on April 20. The season officially starts on Saturday in Michigan, playing Albion University.
