Otterbein University Student Government (OUSG) approved governance changes and heard updates on the upcoming esports and women’s wrestling teams in their last general assembly.
Claire Sauer, vice president of OUSG said the governance changes are expected to encourage more people to get involved.
OUSG also heard reports about innovation projects including women’s wrestling and esports.
Women’s wrestling has caught some positive attention with already four athletes committed. Athletic Director Gregory Lott says they want to expand the program to 22 wrestlers before the first season next winter.
“We are super excited about this program for a number of reasons. It helps bring gender equity to our department, we have had men’s wrestling for a number of years. Wrestling’s a very diverse sport and it's a chance to just really bring another nice addition to the department,” says Lott.
For the new esports team, Lott reported five players committed to compete next season.

Lotts says Director of Esports Athletics, Nevin Horne is recruiting for a diverse team.
“Esports has really been a male dominated space, but as of the last couple of years there has been these special tournaments and leagues that have been designed for women and other minoritized populations, so it is his goal to create competitive teams that gets to compete in some of these environments.”
