Otterbein golf’s fall season is in full swing, and both the men and women programs have their sights focused on the major tournaments ahead.
The men and women teams compete in both the fall and spring season, with the fall being used as a steppingstone for the conference and national tournaments to come in the spring season.
Brian Booher leads the Cardinals this fall season, having joined the program in 2013. He has lead the men’s team to seven of the last eight OAC conference championships and also won the 2022 and 2023 OAC conference championships as head coach of the women’s team.
So far this fall season, the golf program has been able to scope out and get a feel for how the rest of the competition is shaping up.
Junior golfer Cameron Uhl says John Carroll University looks to be the stiffest OAC competition from a competitive standpoint for the men’s team.
“Competitively we’re going to say John Carroll right now, just because they have a really solid squad and so do we. Other than that, our outstanding rival obviously with the oar matches is Capital, it’s always a fun rivalry," Uhl said.
For the women, they are using the fall season to prepare for the spring schedule, with eyes on winning the OAC tournament.
“[Last year] we placed second to ONU, so this year we’re going to try and come back and beat ONU,” said junior Cami Changet.
Ultimately, the Otterbein golfers are looking to use this fall season to improve their game individually and as a team, prepare for the spring season when the trophies are handed out.
“I’d like to just see more and more improvement in my game, mentally especially. That’s a big focus for me,” Changet said.
The women’s team will compete in the OAC Fall Preview in Austintown, Ohio Sept. 28-29, before closing down the fall slate at Wittenburg University near the end of October.
For the men, they will see familiar foes at the Capital Invitational Oct. 12-13, before finishing out in Greensboro, North Carolina Oct. 28-29.
