For many students, the study abroad fair can be a starting point to a global adventure.
From travel courses to exchange programs, and much more in between, the fair will provide information for students to explore which options would be the best fit for them and why a study abroad experience while in college can be both inspiring and valuable.
“Essentially it’s both empowering and confidence-building,” said study abroad coordinator, Arleigh Weiler. “You typically walk away from the experience with a larger sense of autonomy and courage, and a higher ability to navigate the entire world. Your day to day life - the big things, and the small things, change.”
Senior Blaine Bishop shares similar feelings in regards to his experience studying in Malawi, Africa, this past summer.
“It has completely changed the way I view myself and the world, and the responsibility that I have towards others,” Bishop said. “It reminds you how fortunate you are, to have what you have, and to not ever take advantage of that.”
Research about study abroad programs is the first step in planning a successful study abroad experience. The student page provides a variety of information on study abroad and immersive experiences, and the fair will allow students the ability to hear from peers, meet faculty and learn about various options.
“Just take that leap,” Bishop said. “Talk to your advisors, talk to student success, talk to the study abroad coordinator."
This year, the study abroad fair will be held on Oct. 2. Students interested should stop by the event in the Roush Hall Atrium anytime between 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. for the chance to open the doors to a world full of new opportunities and possibilities.
For students wanting to study abroad, as well as those who would like to but may be nervous, Bishop has some advice.
“You can definitely do it. Live in the moment, stay off your phone and you will make great friends and have great adventures.”
