1. Hurricane Sandy’s aftermath has left 100,000 Ohioans still without power. Sandy has mainly effected the northeast part of Ohio beginning early Tuesday morning.
Schools in northeast Ohio have been closed going on three days now. Most of the power has gone out in Cleveland and the western suburbs. FirstEnergy utility company hopes to have all of the power back on by the end of this weekend. Read more.
2. Halloween party gone bad at the University of Southern California on Wednesday night. Guns were fired at a Halloween party on USC’s campus leaving several people wounded.
Shots were fired when two men were arguing at a Halloween party. The campus went under lock down for a few hours. One of the men was critically wounded, while three others who were not involved in the altercation suffered minor injuries. The captain of the University’s public safety department said two people are being held in custody at the police station, but neither of them attend USC as a student. Read more.

The way President Barack Obama responds to the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy may cause citizens to sway their votes either against or for Obama. “Voters must make a superhuman effort to not let the storm carry any more weight than it deserves in their judgement of politicians,” said CNN columnist Frida Ghitis. 4. Suicide attack in Nigeria killed at least five people and injured almost 100 people. This suicide attack happened on Sunday at a Catholic church in northern Nigeria.
The suicide bomber drove a jeep that was filled with explosives into St. Rita’s church in Malali. The identity of the bomber is unknown, but Boka Haram, an Islamic sect, has admitted to being behind similar cases like this one. After the jeep crashed into the building, “Christian youths” ran to the street and were suspected of killing two people. Read more.
5. Cyclone hits Southern India and Sri Lanka. This tropical storm hit Wednesday and did not cease until Thursday, displacing 150,000 people.
The cyclone brought heavy rain and a storm surge. So far six deaths that are certain have been accounted for in India and Sri Lanka. The cyclone was moving at 45 miles per hour after landfall and caused a storm surge of five feet. The cyclone was named Nilam and is the third cyclone to hit southern India in most recent years. They are still trying to get exact numbers of those who died and those who were only injured.
